The Mammoth on the Moon – Erie, PA 5/30/26

On Saturday, May 30th 2026, we took another adventure out to Erie, Pennsylvania for the Erie SeaWolves “Moon Mammoths” Alternative Identity night.

The name comes from George Moon, a scuba diver who discovered 80% of a prehistoric woolly mammoth’s bones in Lake Pleasant, Erie County, Pennsylvania in 1991. The name was pitched by “Last Week Tonight”’s host John Oliver and the show’s writers, after the SeaWolves agreed to let Them come up with a new brand for them.

One note I had, was I have to say I was very impressed with the complete and just about total rebranding they did when it came to a temporary name they were only using for a weekend, going to heights I don’t believe I’ve seen any other teams go to (yet); they did everything from changing the Banners on Light poles, put new carpets and decorations in the team shop, and even changed menu boards & names of concessions

Speaking of concessions, I of course had to partake (as I do every time I’m in town) in the world’s best Pepperoni Balls from the Galley.

They’re so good you have to have more than one round

Another note on the branding, I very much enjoyed the lavender batting helmets – I don’t think I’ve ever seen that color on a team before. I ALSO haven’t seen an inside the park little league home run off a blooper hit, but that happened as well. If you recall a few years back (2023?) we saw an inside the park home run off the wall in this park as well, so it must just be something the baseball gods put in the Erie Air.

The hats they wore tonight as well

Aside from the excitement of the Inside the Park Home Run, the rest of the night’s excitement included a taco bar (Special Ticket required) & a Photo With Fuzz E. mammoth and the Rally Towels I made special for the night!

Definitely top three alternative identities in my book – I’d probably give it the top spot to be honest, because I don’t think anything tops “Moon Mammoths”, and as far as Erie goes, they have a solid lineup with their other rebranding being the (Flagship City) “Kitties”, and their Copa de la Diversión being the “Piñatas”.

Anyway, on to the next! Make sure to check back for more travels, and follow us on Instagram @Cotwrdo!
