Terry’s Travels: The First Flight With the Flying Squirrels (Richmond, VA 4/10/26)

On April 10th, 2026, we took a trip out to Richmond, Virginia, not only to see the Flying Squirrels and the new “Carmax Park”, but actually, primarily, to see “The Diamond” next door before its destruction.

The Diamond in all its Glory

Anyway, Once we conquered our first seemingly impossible task (finding a parking spot), we may our way across the way to the Brand New Carmax park! The vibes were already flowing, with fauxback Friday underway, and an assortment of classic cars for your viewing pleasure out front.

Having these be the first games at the brand new ballpark, There was no shortage of commemorative memorabilia being given out, or available for purchase (here’s a photo of things I received for free after walking into the gate, and one of which I bought), including a commemorative ticket that was attached via preferred card on the inside of the free gameday programs.

The Night was filled with firsts (of course, since it was a new ballpark), rather that be the first trip to the new team shops, to check out the new merch with the updated/new branding, first trips to the new bathrooms (we drove from Ohio to be here), oh, and how about, the first home run in stadium history?? Because that happened as well!

Aside from that, we had a wonderfully Funn time (spelled that way to stay on brand) exploring all the odds and ends of the new stadium, as the Squirrels flew their way to an 11-2 win over the Altoona Curve!

Last but not least, I was also able to snag an in-stadium only limited edition “Inaugural Game” baseball before we hit the road again!
