Most people know him as the artists behind the “Pale Veil Ink” designs you see on this very website, and skin, canvas, and billboards around the world – But what does all that ink ON Dominic mean?
From top photo to bottom – All designed and drawn (unless noted with an ” * “) by Dominic himself.
“Bad Year” Blimp: A well-known nod to Green Day’s breakout album “Dookie”….which also happens to be his favorite band, and was largely accredited in the formation of “Last Alive”
Lucky 13 Spade: A lifestyle & clothing company that celebrates everything Hot Rod, Motorcycle, Punk Rock, Rockabilly, and Tattoo Inspired Vintage Americana. Most famously, Dom uses Lucky 13 Branded Dunlop guitar straps, as well as believes it’s his lucky number, against the grain of everyone who lives in fear of the nomenclature of things involving 13 being “unlucky” – which would make sense for a Halloween Fanatic.
*Dead Mickey: A Nod to the classic Art & Design training he received from his digital art & Design professor, who was a past Disney animator and cartoonist, working on pictures such as “Tarzan”, and to coincide with his work with Adobe & Disney Pixar toward the digital arts marketing production for the 2020 Film “Soul“. The reason mickey is dead, is because of Dom’s career path of choice veering from the classic Disney training, into the Horror and Haunt industry.
Art the Clown: An obsession, idol, and superstar. The quintessential horror villain, on proud display with thick black lines on the inside of his arm. I mean, C’mon, what 10-year professional Haunt actor and Haunted House designer wouldn’t have his choice of slasher tattooed somewhere??
Crazy Cat (Peanut): The large cat with it’s tongue out was originally drawn years and years and years ago (like 2016-ish) to represent the family cat, Peanut, with the original drawing sporting the tan, black, and white colors of the cat. Fun Fact: That drawing was also used as a “Last Alive” logo for awhile! The art style also represents one of his favorites, which you often see repeated in his designs to this day, of the classic 1920-1940’s era cartoons like Steamboat Willie.
Black Star: Yet another Green Day reference. the Star was the standout design on Bassist Mike Dirnt’s Squire Basses starting in 2004. it’s also a tilt toward the multiple star tattoos front man Billie Joe Armstrong has as well.
“PB” Heartbreak: His first tattoo, Representing his Grandmother’s initials in the shape of a heart, also depicting the heart split in half, in regards to her passing just weeks before getting the tattoo.
Flaming “S”: In reference to his last name (Sergi) – he states the only reason he got it was to see what it was like to get a tattoo during 2020’s Covid lockdown, explained with the quote “Everything was shut down, what was open involved six-foot social distancing public mandates, and you had to quarantine for a day to get real legitimate (non-emergency) surgery, BUT, tattoo shops were open. I was just thinking, now how in the F**k is that gonna work? so I drew up some design I can bs explain later and went to see for myself.”
*Dead Ducky: Tattooed by Canadian Tattoo artist Sydney Dyer, know for being on Season 15 of “Inkmaster” – The design was selected because of Dom’s ties to Minor League Sports, Specifically starting as a beat photographer for the Akron RubberDucks, and again, tying in nods to the Horror Industry, with the duck looking very similar to the Baseball Team’s mascot in cartoon form.
